Which breast cancer patients should undergo germline genetic analysis?

In the era of precision medicine, the time when breast cancer was treated based on a general algorithm has passed. Identifying specific drugs for each patient is essential. Therefore, dividing breast cancer patients based on PIK3CA, ESR1, HER2 and BRCA1/BRCA2 mutations has significantly changed the way breast cancer is treated.

Which breast cancer patients should have germline genetic testing?

In early breast cancer, it is recommended to carry out germline genetic analysis in:

• Women diagnosed before the age of 50.
• Triple negative breast cancer regardless of age.
• Bilateral breast cancer regardless of age.
• All men with breast cancer.

Also, women over the age of 50 who have people in their family diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer or prostate cancer should also perform the genetic test.
