GASTROENTEROLOGY


The Department of Gastroenterology in Salus deals with the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the digestive system, under the many aspects of study, prevention, assistance, cure and rehabilitation. This department consists of high-level specialists, advanced technology for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. At Salus, examinations are performed under partial or total anesthesia. Bioptic examinations are carried out in collaboration with specialized Italian histological laboratories.

 


Types of procedures and treatments followed:
  Esophagus
Esophagitis and hiatal hernia
Treatments with dilatation, prosthesis positioning
Endoscopic treatments of tumoral or benign cicatricial stenoses
Mucosectomy in Berrett's esophagus (endoscopic removal of pretumoral lesions in the esophagus).
Band ligating and sclerotherapy of esophageal and fundic varices to avoid massive bleeding in the veins that form in the esophagus in hepatic cirrhosis.
Removal of foreign bodies
  Stomach and Duodenum
Diagnosis and treatment of gastritis, ulcerative pathologies related or not to Heliobacter Pylori.
Diagnosis and treatment of inoperable tumors with prostheses or sclerosing techniques.
BIB: Intragastric balloon for the treatment of obesity.
PEG: Percutaneous gastrostomy, a small tube placed by endoscopy, between the abdominal wall and the stomach to enable artificial feeding in patients with swallowing problems, especially neurologically based.
Sclerotization of cardiofundic gastric varices.
  Colon and small intestine
Diagnostic colonoscopy
Colonoscopy with endoscopic removal of polyps and tumors in the initial stage
Management of chronic inflammatory intestinal diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of celiac disease.
Endoscopic therapy of tumoral or post-surgical stenoses, with balloon dilation and placement of plastic and metal prostheses.
  Pancreas and bile ducts
ERCP: Endoscopic cholangiopancreatography, a very widespread technique in the world, still little known in Albania. ERCP avoids major bile duct surgery by treating stones in the choledochal/bile duct and pancreatic ducts. Also, it cures the complications of pancreatic diseases and reduces the side effects of inoperable pancreatic bile duct tumors (palliation) improving the quality of life.
  Liver
Viral or non-viral hepatitis
Treatment of complications of cirrhosis, such as bleeding from varicose veins
Virological diagnosis and follow-up of the viral load in the laboratory "SYNLAB" Italy
  Other endoscopic activities
Treatment of digestive hemorrhages of the upper and lower tract
Treatment of complications from caustic ingestion
Removal of foreign bodies
Treatment of upper and lower digestive tract hemorrhage
Treatment of complications from caustic ingestion
