Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is the examination which serves to diagnose changes or abnormalities encountered in the large intestine or rectum.

🔹This procedure is performed using a long and flexible tube called a colonoscope, which has a chamber at the top of it that is connected to an external monitor, enabling the doctor to view the interior of the large intestine.

🔹During the examination with a colonoscope, the gastroenterologist can remove polyps or abnormal tissues or take biopsies which are sent to be examined in the laboratory.
Colonoscopy as an examination is performed to check and treat pathologies as follows:
• Polyps.
• Tumor.
• Ulcers.
• Defamation.
• Intestinal constriction.
• Removal of foreign bodies that are identified during the examination.

🔹It can also be used to find the causes of an unexplained chronic diarrhea or even as a re-check for people who have been treated for colon cancer or according to the recommendation of a specialist doctor.
