Percutaneous Gastrostomy

Percutaneous gastrostomy is an endoscopic procedure used to place a tube in a person's abdomen to allow food and liquids to enter the stomach directly. This procedure is usually done for people who suffer from chronic illness, paralysis, or some other condition that makes swallowing difficult or impossible.

After the PEG is placed, patient care includes careful monitoring for any possible signs of infection, and the person receives food and fluids through the tube in place. This can be used for a short or long period, depending on the needs of the individual.
