Why and how is carotid artery stenosis caused?

Atherosclerosis is a process of "aging" of the arteries that develops and progresses gradually starting at a young age, while it is characterized by the accumulation of fats in the walls of the arteries which gradually lead to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques inside the artery and consequently narrow artery and prevent blood circulation in them.

In general, carotid artery stenosis does not show distinct signs in the patient. In some cases, the patient may experience momentary paralysis of the limbs, difficulty in speaking or darkening of the vision in one eye that pass only after a few minutes.
