Cataract Surgery

Cataract, or in other words the curtain of the eye, is a typical disease of old age. But there are also cases when it can appear in newborns, in people who use a certain group of drugs (especially those who use cortisone), in people with some other eye diseases and in case of eye injuries.

Cataract surgery is performed in the operating room, a procedure which is performed with topical anesthesia and lasts about 25 minutes. During this operation, after removing the cataract, an intraocular lens is placed (inside the eye) with which the person can see far or near.

Meanwhile, with advanced procedures, the complication rate of cataract surgery is very small.

Dr. Alberto Torreggiani specialized in Ophthalmology at the University of Bologna in 2002. Since this year, he has been practicing as an ophthalmologist, performing the most complicated surgeries.

Among other things, he is the head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the AUSL of Bologna, while as part of our hospital he has performed over the years a high number of the most complicated interventions, all with complete success!
