Arthroscopy is a surgical intervention performed by an orthopedic surgeon to diagnose and treat joint disorders. It is mostly performed on the knee, ankle, shoulder, elbows and wrists.
Arthroscopy can treat:
• Damage to menisci, cartilage, synovium and others.
• Baker's cyst, collection of intra-articular synovial fluid that causes stiffness and swelling.
• Frozen shoulders, i.e. shoulder pain and stiffness.
• Carpal tunnel syndrome, a tingling sensation, numbness and sometimes pain in the hand or fingers.
• Arthrofibrosis or excess tissue, due to a previous trauma that prevents the normal functioning of the joint.
• Bone spurs, which are abnormal bone shapes that can cause persistent pain.
• Synovitis, inflammation of the inner lining of joints.
What are the benefits?
Less postoperative pain, the scar heals faster, less risk of infections and the patient can go home the day of the intervention.
